Description
Used by placing on a microscope slide and moistened with a little water, the strip is smeared with two or three colonies from a petri dish. Organism confimation is shown by a rapid colour change.Beta-Test™
Detects the presence of β-lactamase enzymes. Each test strip is impregnated with benzyl penicillin and a pH indicator, bromocresol purple. β-lactamase positive organisms are indicated by a colour change from purple to yellow.
PRO-TEST™
Detects Proteus
species by hydrolysis of urea, providing a rapid alternative to urea broths and slopes. Using a phenol red indicator the breakdown of urea to ammonia and carbon dioxide cause a colour change from yellow to pink/red.
PYO-TEST™
A rapid test for oxidase positive organisms, detecting cytochrome oxidase by inducing a colour change of a redox dye to deep purple. Ascorbic acid prevents auto-oxidation.
GRAM-TEST™
For rapid differentiation of Gram-positive and negative aerobes and facultative aerobes. The test detects cell wall amino peptidase by chromogenic substrate, L-alanine-4-nitroanilide (LANA), which is turned yellow by Gram-negative organisms. In the presence of Gram-positive organisms the dye remains colourless. This test does not give reliable results with microaerophilic organisms and strict anaerobes.
INDO-TEST™
A rapid paper strip test based on the indole spot test. Certain bacteria, notably E. coli have the ability to break down tryptophan producing indole as well as pyruvate and ammonia. Indole is detected by reaction with p-dimethylamino-cinnamaldehyde giving rise to a distinctive green-brown colour.
AH-TEST™
A simple and inexpensive test for demonstrating aesculin hydrolysis. Can be used to distinguish Lancefield group D streptococci from other streptococci. Employs ferric citrate and bile salts impregnated into the strip. Group D streptococci hydrolyse aesculin to aesculetin and glucose. This then reacts with ferric citrate to form a visible brown or black complex.
