Description
Detect ESBLs (extended spectrum β-lactamases) in Enterobacteriaceae which don t produce inducible AmpC enzymes with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Cefpodoxime Combination Disc Kit. The test combines the use of two discs: A disc with both Cefpodoxime and clavulanic acid (ß-lactamase inhibitor) and a disc with Cefpodoxime alone.
Extended Spectrum β-Lactamases are enzymes capable of conferring bacterial resistance to penicillins, cephalosporins, and aztreonam by hydrolysis of these antibiotics1,2. Production of ESBLs is a significant resistance-mechanism that impedes the antimicrobial treatment of infections caused by Enterobacteriaceae and is a serious threat to the currently available antibiotic armory3.
