Melford Amikacin
Description
Amikacin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic.
Amikacin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic. It is often utilized in microbiology and molecular biology laboratories and functions by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Additionally, it binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, leading to the misreading of mRNA and ultimately preventing the synthesis of bacterial proteins. Due to its mechanism of action, amikacin is effective against a wide range of Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacteria.
Commonly used as a selective agent in cell culture and molecular biology experiments. May be included in culture media to selectively grow cells that have been genetically modified to express resistance to this antibiotic. This is often achieved by introducing a plasmid or vector containing an amikacin resistance gene into the cells.Specifications
