Description

Enables measurement of cations and anions with Ion Selective Electrodes (ISEs). Nitrate Ionic Strength Adjuster, 2.0M, Reagecon™ is added to both samples and ISE standards for use in calibration, control, instrument qualification and method validation in direct and indirect ion measurement.

The use of an Ionic Strength Adjuster (ISA) has several benefits when measuring cations, anions and some dissolved gasses with an Ion Selective Electrode (ISE).

  • The ISA keeps the ionic strength of the sample and standard high, constant and similar, which enables activity measurement to be read as concentration
  • The ISA keeps the pH value constant in some instances, which helps suppress or eliminate interfering ions
  • The ISA eliminates any matrix, hysteresis or erroneous liquid junction potentials that might affect the accuracy of the test result
  • An ISA should never react with the sample or standard chemically
