Description

MultiShot BL21(DE3) Chemically Competent E. coli Cells offer high-efficiency protein expression in a flexible 96-well format. Breakable into 8-well strips, it enables convenient, scalable workflows for recombinant protein production and parallel cloning experiments.

Invitrogen MultiShot BL21(DE3) Chemically Competent E. coli Cells are suitable for the expression of non-toxic heterologous genes. The are pre-aliquoted into a 96-well PCR plate to increase transformation productivity.

Features of MultiShot BL21(D3) competent cells include:

  • High transformation efficiency: >1x107 cfu/μg pUC19 DNA
  • Specifically constructed for high-level expression of recombinant proteins
  • Compatible with automated liquid handling platforms
  • Transform in increments of 8 wells to an entire 96-well plate
  • Competent cells pre-aliquoted into 96-well plate, ready for transformation

MultiShot BL21(D3) competent cells in FlexPlate format can be divided down to any combination of 8-well segments to allow for flexibility in transformation throughput. The BL21 (DE3) strain contains the lambda DE3 prophage that carries the gene for T7 RNA polymerase under control of a lacUV5 promoter, allowing expression of the T7 RNA polymerase to be induced with IPTG. BL21(DE3) is an E. coli B strain and does not contain the lon protease. It is also deficient in the outer membrane protease OmpT. The lack of these two key proteases reduces degradation of heterologous proteins expressed in the cells.

Note: Not suitable for maintenance of expression plasmids. Use DH10B or DH5α competent cells that do not carry the gene for T7 RNA polymerase for plasmid DNA propagation (Cat. Nos. EC0112, EC0113).
